More Sentence Patterns更多句型练习
Each pattern comes with a short explanation, a formula, examples and eight practice questions — build sentences, choose the right one, fill in blanks and fix mistakes.
Subject + Verb + 了 + Object
了 right after the verb shows the action was completed. It is not a past tense — it marks that the action reached its result.
- wǒ mǎi le yì běn shū.我买了一本书。I bought a book.
- tā hē le liǎng bēi kāfēi.他喝了两杯咖啡。He drank two cups of coffee.
Subject + 没有 + Verb + Object
To say an action did not happen, use 没有 (or just 没) before the verb. When you use 没有, the 了 disappears.
- wǒ jīntiān méiyǒu hē kāfēi.我今天没有喝咖啡。I didn't drink coffee today.
- tā méi qù shàngbān.他没去上班。He didn't go to work.
Sentence-final 了 (a new situation)
了 at the very end of a sentence says something is different now: the weather changed, you feel different, a situation is new.
- tiān lěng le.天冷了。It's gotten cold.
- wǒ è le.我饿了。I'm hungry now.
太 + Adjective + 了
太…了 means 'too / so'. It is one fixed frame: 太 goes before the adjective and 了 closes the sentence.
- zhège cài tài là le.这个菜太辣了。This dish is too spicy.
- tài hǎo le!太好了!That's great!
快要 / 要……了 (about to happen)
快要……了 and 要……了 say something is going to happen very soon. 快 adds a sense of urgency.
- kuàiyào xià yǔ le.快要下雨了。It's about to rain.
- wǒ yào xiàbān le.我要下班了。I'm about to finish work.
不……了 (not anymore)
不……了 says you have stopped doing something or changed your mind: 'not anymore', 'I won't … after all'.
- wǒ bù hē kāfēi le.我不喝咖啡了。I don't drink coffee anymore.
- tā bú qù le.他不去了。He's not going after all.
别……了 (stop doing that)
别……了 asks someone to stop what they are already doing. It sounds softer than a bare command.
- bié shuōhuà le.别说话了。Stop talking.
- bié dānxīn le.别担心了。Don't worry anymore.

- tā zài kāfēi diàn kàn shū.他在咖啡店看书。He reads at the coffee shop.
